Nature, as commonly understood, refers to the elements untouched by human influence: space, air, rivers, leaves. Art, on the other hand, is the result of human intervention with these elements, shaping them into things like houses, canals, statues, or paintings.
Yet, when viewed as a whole, humanity’s efforts are minor—mere chiseling, molding, mending, and polishing. Against the vast and overwhelming impression the natural world leaves on the human mind, these alterations hardly make a difference.
